Pine Shelves Made For You

Pine is the wood you reach for when you want real wood at a price that makes sense. I build pine floating shelves the same way I build the hardwood ones: by hand, cut to size, finished by me. The difference is the price point and the lighter character that makes pine right for certain rooms. Farmhouse kitchens, rustic living rooms, garage workshops, kid bedrooms. Anywhere you want the look and feel of solid wood without the cost of walnut or white oak.

You'll find three bracket styles here: hidden dowel rod brackets for the floating look, industrial pipe brackets for the rustic farmhouse feel, and no-bracket options if you're mounting your own way. Plus a few one-of-a-kind specialty pieces that wouldn't fit anywhere else. Every shelf is cut to your specs between 12" and 72" long, then sanded, finished, and shipped from my shop in Charlotte, NC.

What Makes Pine Perfect

What Makes Pine Different

Pine is a softwood, which means it weighs less, cuts cleaner, and takes a finish beautifully. It's the wood that pioneers built American farmhouses from. It's not as dense as walnut or white oak, and that's actually the point. The grain is more open, the color is lighter, and the character is more relaxed. Pine reads as warm and welcoming. Hardwood reads as formal and substantial. Both have their place. If you want the warm farmhouse aesthetic, or you want quality wood without the premium price, pine is the right choice.

Choosing Your Bracket Style

Three options here:

Hidden dowel rod brackets give you the true floating look. Two steel rods anchor into the studs, and the shelf slides on. From the side, you see only the shelf. Best for living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms where you want the shelf itself to be the focus.

Industrial pipe brackets are visible black iron pipe with a flange that mounts to the wall. The pipe holds the shelf from below. Best for farmhouse kitchens, garages, workshops, and any room where you want the bracket to be part of the design.

No brackets ships you the shelf alone. You're providing your own mounting. Best for built-ins, custom shelving inside cabinets, or buyers who already have brackets and just need a shelf cut to size.

Pine Weight Capacity

Pine shelves with my hidden dowel rod bracket system hold up to 20 lbs per stud. Pine with pipe brackets handles slightly more because the bracket carries more of the load. That's enough for books, plants, dishes, and most kitchen items. If you're hanging cast iron or planning to load a shelf with 100+ lbs, hardwood with the Hovr bracket system is the better choice. I'll always tell you honestly which option fits your project.

Sizing Your Pine Shelves

Pine specs are 12-60" long, 4-8" deep, 1.25" thick, 20 lbs per stud. The sizing section and weight capacity section both need the new numbers. The overall pine positioning should emphasize decorative and aesthetic use cases rather than heavy duty function. The honest framing protects buyers from disappointment and protects you from returns or weight-related issues. Replace the sizing, weight capacity, and FAQ strength sections with the updated versions above. Consider revising the intro to set honest expectations about pine's narrower use case range.
